"Achieving success by learning well and living well" (PL Educational Approach)
Our aim is to support our students to become well-rounded individuals and citizens of tomorrow, who are well-prepared for a complex world. We believe that academic excellence is key to this, and that this is supported through a focus on wellbeing, metacognition and the development of skills and dispositions that support great learning.
Below you will find some of the key policies that guide and describe our approach, as well as links to our assessment calendars, tracking data and the log-in details for whole school subscriptions.
The GPLL Framework is rooted in Daniel Willingham's model of how memory works and informed by Cognitive Load Theory. We have adopted Josh Goodrich’s extended model, which highlights six fundamental challenges every teacher faces in every lesson. As Sarah Cottingham reminds us, effective teaching is about “having a secure, efficient base of routines and the conceptual grasp to flex them appropriately” and GPLL Framework aims to do just that.
The framework provides Park Lane staff with:
A toolkit of evidence-based strategies designed to maximise engagement and deep thinking for every child in every lesson
A shared language around teaching and learning
A clear understanding of what makes a great lesson
Impactful CPD focused on knowledge and practice
Aligned feedback from line managers – to ensure clarity and consistency across the school
A detailed framework that seamlessly incorporates and aligns with the IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning
These learning problems help to support coaching diagnosis when organised into a coaching chain (in order of importance):
Curriculum - Attention - Communication - Thought - Feedback - Consolidation
Access to the Assessment Calendars that, once completed, are sent to parents and students
